OnOneMap Launches Feature That Displays Sold Property Prices Alongside Properties For Sale

  • Home hunters can now assess how much houses in their chosen area are selling for
  • Be as informed as an estate agent by comparing sale prices in your area.

LONDON, 2nd August 2006

OnOneMap, the property search engine that maps houses for sale and to rent, today announces a unique new feature – the ability to view sold houses and their sale price alongside houses currently for sale on one map. In partnership with www.HousePriceReports.com, this new service is the first time that both sources of information can be mapped easily together.

By visiting www.ononemap.com users can zoom in to street level, where house icons represent the properties that are available for sale in that particular area. Basic information such as number of bedrooms, price and a thumbnail picture are displayed when a house icon is clicked. Users can then click on a link that takes them to the Web site on which more detailed property information can be found.

A grey house icon indicates sold properties. Users can simply click on the icon to view the sale price of that particular property. Home hunters can compare prices of properties already sold with those available to buy, giving them a realistic feel for property prices in the area, what’s good value and what's above the ceiling price for a particular area. The term for this kind of information in the trade is "comps" (comparables) and estate agents use this information to establish the market price of a house.

By making sold prices available on the same map as houses for sale, OnOneMap is putting home hunters in an informed position, vital in the current market where house prices are forecast to rise by more than 50% over the next six years.

Happy Birthday!

OnOneMap is delighted to announce this new feature on its first birthday. The site was created in August 2005 by home-hunter and coder, Andrew Betts, who was frustrated by the need to keep switching between property websites and an A-to-Z in order to find a suitable house in a suitable location. By combining online data from estate agents with geographical data from GoogleMaps, OnOneMap was born.

Since launch OnOneMap has helped millions of people search for a home. By listening to user suggestions on its popular forum, the site has evolved organically into one of the most popular property sites, receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors every month.

Philip Sheldrake, co-founder OnOneMap comments: "We are proud to announce this useful addition to our search engine on our first anniversary.

"Anyone searching for a house will enjoy having instant access to sold house price data in their search area. It's essential information for developing your knowledge of a specific area and comparing property prices. It can also be used as ammunition when negotiating a price. Property users need to be more informed than ever in this market, and it makes real sense for OnOneMap and HousePriceReports to come together to deliver this service."
