How to use OnOneMap
OnOneMap is incredibly easy to use. This is a good overview, and you can find more information in our frequently asked questions section.
The map
Selecting a location
Simply click on the tab above called "map" and you'll see a map centred on either the whole of the UK or the last place you were looking. Enter a postcode or name of a city, town, village, train station or school in the search bar at the top right and click "Go" to jump to that location and zoom in.

You may also want to know that double-clicking any part of the map re-centres the map on that point.
Selecting your property characteristics
You can change your property search characteristics by clicking each of the highlighted terms at the top right above the map. The new search will run in two seconds unless you click on another characteristic to change that first. Alternatively, you can click "Change" to the right of these terms and review all your search terms at once.
You can change the following characteristics:
- Looking to buy or rent
- The minimum and maximum price
- The minimum and maximum number of bedrooms
- The type of home (currently a choice of house, flat or either)
- Proximity to a tube station, train station or motorway junction

Looking at your search results
Properties will appear on the map as little house icons. When they are all plotted, click on a house to view its photo (if the website with the property particulars chooses to serve one) and brief details. If properties don't start appearing then there are too many to display at this scale and you'll have to zoom in further with the zoom bar top left of the map. When there are too many properties to display in one area, you will find a rectangle with the postcode area written inside it. Clicking on this rectangle zooms you in further in that area.
You have four options when you have clicked on a house icon: the main hyperlink, the star, the envelope and the bin.

Clicking on the main hyperlink, the property title, either takes you straight to the website marketing the property, or lists the multiple sources we have for that property for you to select from.
Clicking the star adds the property to your shortlist.
Clicking the envelope allows you to e-mail the property to a friend.
Clicking the bin effectively blacklists the property so you don't give it your further attention. This can be undone by clicking on the greyed-out property icon and removing it from the bin.
Map options
The map options panel can be opened and closed by clicking "Map options" top right of the map. You can elect to show or hide various information by ticking the boxes under the heading "Map layers". Currently, this includes sold properties, secondary schools and supermarkets, and we will be adding more information here over time so keep an eye out.
The Map options panel also includes a quick way to access your shortlisted properties, and the option to show or hide help tips; useful for new users of OnOneMap but a potential annoyance otherwise!

Map information bar
The progress of any new property information download is displayed in the rectangle at the bottom left of your browser. The right hand side of this bar displays the size of the map area you're viewing, the number of properties found in that area that meet your search requirements, the number of properties displayed, and the RSS feed for your selection (see FAQ for more information).

The directory
The directory view displays a more traditional (non-map based) view of your search results. The search results are listed in distance from the centre of your search, and to the right you will see transport and local schools information. Clicking on any of these re-centres your search accordingly (ie, reorders the list according to how far they are from the train station or school you clicked).
Icons appear to the right of any property you hover your mouse over. Hover over each to see a tip describing what they do.
Your shortlist
This section does exactly what it says, it displays the property you have shortlisted. Icons appear to the right of any property you hover your mouse over. Hover over each to see a tip describing what they do. Your shortlisted properties appear on the map as a gold colour with a white halo effect.
You can shortlist up to five properties before you are invited to register with OnOneMap. Registration allows you to store up to fifty properties in your shortlist, and will store these and the details of your last search for when you next return to OnOneMap and log in.
